Does your soil have problems with alkalinity or salinity? Trust AFEPASA
Nearly one third of our territory has excessively high pH levels, making optimal agricultural use more difficult.
- Nearly one third of our territory has excessively high pH levels, making optimal agricultural use more difficult.
- In this situation, the most advisable approach is to apply soil amendments that can naturally rebalance these levels and restore soil quality.
- At AFEPASA, we offer a solution adapted to the specific needs of your agricultural soil.
The European Mediterranean basin, and particularly our territory, is currently facing an increasingly significant problem concerning soil pH levels, which is especially concerning in agricultural areas.
According to estimates by the Institute of Environment and Sustainability (IES), part of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Commission’s main scientific and technical advisory body, practically one third of the Iberian Peninsula, corresponding to the eastern part of the territory, has pH levels above 6.5 due to salinity.
It is important to bear in mind that when agricultural soil has high alkalinity, a natural process of nutrient immobilisation occurs, particularly affecting phosphorus and iron.
Likewise, in soils characterised by high salinity, this condition negatively affects electrical conductivity, making it more difficult for plants to naturally absorb water and nutrients. It can also contribute to soil structure deterioration due to the saturation of clay-humus complexes.
In this scenario, elemental sulphur becomes an essential tool for helping soil recover optimal conditions for crop development. Through the natural chemical reactions triggered when it comes into contact with elements present at higher concentrations in these types of soils, it helps reduce electrical conductivity, promotes the leaching of salts and reduces excess calcium, thereby lowering soil pH.
For this purpose, AFEPASA offers three alternatives worth considering, depending on the problems affecting your agricultural soil: AFESOL, Microsul 40S and Organosul 20S. Their specific properties are described below.
AFESOL is an elemental sulphur solution particularly suitable for dryland and traditional irrigated soils affected by high salinity and alkalinity, as it can be applied without irrigation using conventional solid fertiliser equipment.
It is a solid soil amendment made from micronised elemental sulphur bound with clay. When it absorbs moisture, it facilitates its effective incorporation into the soil.
Microsul 40S, on the other hand, is an ideal solution for soils with severe problems of salt concentration and alkalinity, which consequently have limited agricultural potential due to their high pH.
In these situations, Microsul 40S not only naturally helps reduce alkalinity and salinity levels but, thanks to its biostimulant properties, also contributes to enriching the specific microbiome present in the soil.
Likewise, Organosul 20S is the most suitable solution for soils that, in addition to high salinity and alkalinity levels, have limited agricultural potential due to their low organic matter content.
In such cases, Organosul 20S helps improve the natural structure of the soil thanks to its biostimulant properties and its composition, which is rich in plant-derived organic matter enriched with microbiological sulphur.
As you can see, AFEPASA offers a solution fully adapted to the needs and requirements of your agricultural soil, because we are fully aware of its importance for the health and development potential of your crops.
