AFEPASA and Ao Midori Biocontrol sign an agreement for the distribution of biocontrol treatments

- The objective is to supply treatments for the control of the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae).
- These treatments consist of the CECA-SYSTEM and AMPHOS-SYSTEM mass-trapping systems, which use a high-capacity capture trap together with a dry attractant specifically designed for each species.
- These highly effective, low-maintenance systems provide an essential tool for controlling fruit fly and olive fruit fly populations.
- AFEPASA, the world’s largest producer of agricultural sulphur and specialty products, and Ao Midori Biocontrol, a company that develops and markets products for integrated pest management, have signed an agreement for the distribution of biocontrol treatments based on mass trapping using specific attractants. The agreement covers Europe, although other regions of the world may also be included within its scope.
- The agreement seeks to make the most of the synergies shared by both companies. AFEPASA contributes its international presence across five continents, together with its long-standing track record and extensive experience in the agricultural sector. Ao Midori Biocontrol contributes its extensive expertise in biocontrol and integrated pest management. Both companies also share a strong commitment to more sustainable agriculture and a firm focus on R&D&I, enabling them to continue advancing towards a more sustainable and efficient agriculture of the future.
- The aim of the agreement is to supply treatments for the control of the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae). These treatments use a mass-trapping system, primarily targeting females, through a trap and a dry attractant specifically designed for each species.
- On the one hand, Bactrocera oleae is the most economically significant pest affecting olive cultivation and is widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean region, Africa and the Middle East. Its spread is rapid and extensive due to its strong flying ability. On the other hand, Ceratitis capitata is a polyphagous fly that attacks citrus and fruit crops. Originally from Ethiopia, it has spread throughout most temperate and warm regions of the world.
- The partnership agreement was signed by Manel Montaño, General Manager of AFEPASA, and Javier López Aznar, on behalf of Ao Midori Biocontrol.
