AFEPASA CELEBRATES ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY AS A FAMILY-OWNED COMPANY

Azufrera y Fertilizantes Pallarès, the Tarragona-based family-owned company dedicated to the production and marketing of sulphur in its various plant protection and nutritional formulations, celebrated its 125th anniversary last Thursday afternoon at the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce. The event was attended by specialist Eduardo Martínez Abascal, IESE professor, Josep LL. Bonet from the Freixenet Group and President of the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, Santiago Marcó from Marcó Dachs, Antoni Pont from the Borges Group and Jaume Gramona from Gramona. Local authorities, as well as prominent figures and businesspeople from Camp de Tarragona and the wine sector, also attended.

Manel Montaño, General Manager of AFEPASA, opened the event by praising the long journey achieved by the Pallarès family through its company and recognising the great work carried out by its employees. At the end of his speech, the documentary about the company’s history was premiered. Immediately afterwards, Mr Joan Pallarès Bosch, representative of AFEPASA’s third generation, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to everyone in attendance.

Following Mr Pallarès’ speech, the round-table discussion began. First, Eduardo Martínez Abascal explained the values that define a family-owned company, highlighting each of them, from the role and attitude expected of managers to those expected of employees. Secondly, each speaker discussed both the origins of their respective companies and the values they believe a family-owned company should embody.

To conclude the event, Laura Roigé, President of the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce, presented the commemorative plaque to the Pallarès family. The company’s fourth generation then expressed its gratitude for the work carried out by their family predecessors and by all the people who have been and continue to be part of AFEPASA. They also highlighted the planned investments, such as the new plant, which will enable the company to achieve global leadership in agricultural sulphur.
