AFEPASA renews its commitment to sustainability with EMAS and ISO 14001 certifications

 

• AFEPASA’s commitment to our environment goes beyond the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural solutions; it is also reflected in the integration of environmentally responsible practices.
• Our environmental management systems are certified in accordance with EMAS and ISO 14001 standards.
• As required by the EMAS certification, we have submitted our annual Environmental Statement, reflecting the efforts and commitment made in the area of environmental management.

AFEPASA’s firm commitment to greater environmental responsibility and the protection of the environment extends beyond the research and development of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for agriculture, including fertilisation, biostimulation and crop protection against pests and diseases.

At AFEPASA, we also believe that this commitment to sustainability must be reflected in all the processes and operations we carry out.

For this reason, AFEPASA has had an environmental management system certified under the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and UNE-EN ISO 14001 standards for several years. With regard to EMAS, this year we have once again certified our commitment by meeting the criteria established by the European Union’s EMAS Regulation. We first obtained this certification in 2007. As a result, this year we received the ‘Silver’ distinction from the scheme, recognising our fifteen years of commitment to this environmental management system.

With regard to the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard, which is reviewed annually and renewed every three years, it establishes the standard indicators that a company, regardless of its sector, must meet to ensure that its processes comply satisfactorily with the applicable environmental regulations.

According to Marc Melero, AFEPASA’s Head of Quality, Environment and Safety, “Our commitment to the environment and sustainability are key factors for our company. That is why we not only hold UNE-EN ISO 14001 certification, but go a step further by incorporating the criteria required by a much more demanding environmental certification such as EMAS.”

Environmental Statement 2021

As required by the EMAS standard, we have submitted the Environmental Statement for 2021. As Manel Montaño, General Manager of AFEPASA, points out, it “reflects the efforts and commitment made by our organisation since we assumed our responsibility towards the environment.”

This annual report provides an organised and structured overview of all the measures implemented to improve the efficiency and sustainability of resource consumption, as well as the implementation of the most appropriate systems to reduce waste generation and optimise its management.

Particular attention is paid to the carbon footprint, calculating the CO₂ released into the atmosphere both directly, through production processes, and indirectly by suppliers and distributors during the procurement and transportation of products to points of sale. AFEPASA also has approved SO₂ washing systems.
