AFEPASA was founded 128 years ago as a family-owned company specialising in sulphur and is now the world’s oldest and largest sulphur producer. With steady growth and thanks to our investment in quality processes and workflows, we are now certified under ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and EMAS standards, in addition to receiving the ECOVADIS Gold Medal for Sustainability in 2021.
In terms of production capacity, the production plant located in Constantí since 2002 is a new facility built according to the principles of sustainable development. Covering 2 hectares, with 17,000 m² of built-up area, the facility was designed with state-of-the-art industrial equipment, sophisticated process control and the most advanced technology available for the micronisation, sublimation and blending of agricultural and industrial sulphur, making AFEPASA experts in plant protection product formulation. Its capacity exceeds 50,000 tonnes per year, while meeting the most rigorous quality controls and environmental requirements. Today, AFEPASA continues to operate one of the most modern sulphur refineries in Europe.
At that time, as a result of the efforts of the entire company working as one and sustained growth over time, we were proud to present our new liquid production plant, equipped with cutting-edge German and Japanese technology. The facility has a total built-up area of 2,300 m² and represents an investment of more than €4 million over two years, with the support of ACCIÓ. The eligible expenditure amounted to €4,362,524.85 and the grant awarded was €200,000.
The new plant is equipped with multi-format packaging capabilities ranging from 1-litre containers to IBCs, more than 7 bead mills for wet grinding and over 11 reactor tanks ranging from 3,000 to 20,000 litres, with a production capacity of more than 10 million litres per year. The company also has indoor storage capacity at its facilities, located just 4 km from the Port of Tarragona.
